“Petimezi” is the Greek word (originating from the Turkish “pekmez” that substituted the ancient “epsima”) for the concentrated grape juice syrup or grape molasses. The word is also used in Greece to describe something that is very sweet. “Petimezi” is one of the traditionally used sweeteners in Greek cuisine, alongside honey & carob syrup, before the cane sugar appearance.
Karagelis’ petimezi is made from 100% organic grapes from Mount Pylia in Peloponnesus & without heat treatment. The traditional heat condensation is substituted by one carried under vacuum & low temperatures. Due to that, it has a lighter colour, meaning that the product is not “burned”, thus maintaining the utmost of grape nutrients & aromas! Here it is combined with organic cocoa.
“Petimezi” is a natural source of fiber, iron, vitamins & antioxidants. It is also a source of resveratrol, the compound known as the “elixir of youth”.
