“Pure Beeswax” is produced by the wax glands of the bee & is used to build the honeycombs, after being kneaded & mixed with secretions from the salivary glands. The wax that bees use to seal mature honey contains natural antibiotic substances that help preserve it. It is collected mainly from the cappings of the cells & from old honeycombs. The main uses of beeswax are found in the cosmetics, candle & honeycomb sheet industries. Many depilatory products contain beeswax as their main ingredient & various sticks used for cosmetic or protective purposes have an outer wax layer. Several antiperspirants also include beeswax, which helps retain the bactericidal components of their formula. Beeswax is additionally used in topical anaesthetics, air fresheners, toothpastes, suntan oils, shaving creams & other everyday products. The quality of beauty creams & cosmetics in general is enhanced by the addition of beeswax. It is also widely used in varnishes for parquet, floors, furniture, & cars. Finally, many chewing gums & sugar-coated candies contain beeswax as well.
