Grandfather Nikos, growing up by farmers in a small village, learned to appreciate all that mother nature has to offer. He was also intrigued by the source of the tastiness of all the foods that were cooked in the neighbourhoods. The smells, the tastes & the friendships led him to establish, along with his son Dimitris, his own tavern in the mid-sixties. He used to say that for him: “Every dish is a special creation & every customer is a special being”. In 1981, Dimitris & his wife Eleni founded their own butcher shop in Monemvasia. Their vision was to incorporate history, tradition & taste into their products. In 1989, this little business turned into a company, with additions of third-generation family members, Sofia & Nikos. Nowadays, after years of experience & always following grandpa Nikos’ motto, the company continues to create products that meet the nutritional needs of all those who want to eat quality food from selected raw materials.
“Syglino Monemvasias” is a traditional pork product of Laconia that is cured in brine, naturally smoked on olive wood & then boiled with wine, orange peels & spices before it gets vacuum packed with extra virgin olive oil. The local red wine, the Laconian orange peels & the laurel leaves in combination with the natural smoking on olive wood, give the product a unique aroma, capturing a piece of the Mediterranean into every bite.
