In Agios Athanasios, Thessaloniki, the company for the production & standardization of bee products “Anthima” has been active for the last years. Combining the wonderful world of bees, with the knowledge & experience of the beekeeper, alongside the respect for nature & the environment, products of high nutritional value & special organoleptic characteristics are produced for the needs of modern consumers. Beehive, honey, pollen & propolis products of exceptional quality are collected from the forests, mountains & islands of Greece & under the strict hygiene conditions of their model beekeeping laboratory are standardized to reach the final consumer.
Pollen is the product that bees collect daily & throughout the year from plants & trees in the Greek countryside. It is collected with pollen traps that are placed in front of the entrance of the hive, mainly on spring days. Then, after being cleaned & without any processing, it is stored for a long time (2-3 years) in the freezer without affecting its nutritional value. “Raw Bee Pollen” is a natural protein source of high nutritional value, extremely important for those who exercise but also for those who need more energy in their daily lives. It also contains carbohydrates, sugars, enzymes, lipids, vitamins, minerals & trace elements necessary for the development & proper functioning of the human body. Its taste is from very sweet, sweet, neutral to bitter, very bitter depending on its botanical origin. Its colour is mainly yellow & orange, while you will find it in almost all shades from white to black.
It is recommended to consume it directly from the freezer where its nutritional value remains unchanged. You can consume it whole in its original form or combine it in various products such as honey, yoghurt, salads & ice cream or dissolve it in drinks (ie milk, juice). An amount of 15g of pollen (3 teaspoons) contains 45 calories & is enough to meet the body’s daily need for protein. It is advised to start with 1 teaspoon per day & for a week before you gradually increase the daily consumption to 1 tablespoon per day, in order for your body to get used to it. For kids, 3-5 years old 5g (1 teaspoon) & 6-12 years old 10g (2 teaspoons) per day is enough.
