“Retsina”, the famous Greek resinous wine!
“Retsina” is a Greek white resinated wine, which has been made for at least 2000 years. Its unique flavour is originating from the practice of sealing wine vessels, particularly amphorae, with pine resin in ancient times. By this they prevented oxygen permeation & the wine spoilage due to oxidation, but in the same time the resin was infusing the wine with its characteristic flavour & aroma.
Vinification/Ageing: Typical white vinification in stainless steel tanks at strictly controlled temperature, with addition of small quantity of top-quality fresh pine resin during the alcoholic fermentation.
Colour: Pale yellow with greenish hues.
Bouquet: Pear, green apple & melon, with notes of lime, Chios mastic & fresh pine resin.
Body: Intensely aromatic & well-balanced, leaving a feeling of summer breeze.
Food Pairing: Greek & Mediterranean mezes, dishes rich in olive oil, pan-fried, grilled or spit-roasted meat, smelts, anchovies & feta cheese with olive oil & oregano.
Best Served: 10-12°C
