It all started about a century ago when the Haitoglou family arrived in Thessaloniki from Minor Asia. The most valuable thing brought with them back then was not their belongings, but the love for family traditions & the secret family recipes utilizing the finest sesame, namely “Tahini” & “Halva”. It was then, in 1924, that they opened a small shop dedicated to creating their delicious halva by hand in small batches, continuing the craft their fathers & grandfathers had taught them. Throughout the years, many things changed, but the passion to create the best products, the legacy embodied in the family’s secret recipe & the symbol of the “woman from Thessaloniki” (a graceful female figure in a traditional Northern Greek costume that started as a symbol to help people identify their favourite halva & its origin at a time when many couldn’t read) or the “Halva Lady” as she became widely known remained the same.
